The premise is that if the Ottawa Senators stumbled out of the gate during the opening games of next season, it's possible that general manager Steve Staios may try to move Giroux in hopes of recovering some assets. He is in the final year of his deal of three years in $19.5 million which holds a cap hit of 6.5 million per season.
Several teams have been linked to Giroux which include the Philadelphia Flyers and the Boston Bruins. General manager Don Sweeney would still like to add offensive skill to his lineup and player like Giroux could give him an offensive boost especially on the power play.
Sweeney is still in negotiations with starting goaltender Jeremy Swayman. The Bruins currently hold $8.6 million in cap space and are likely holding this money for his impending deal.
Last season, Giroux played all 82 games for the Senators, and he scored 21 goals, with 43 assists for 64 points and had 26 penalty minutes. Giroux Has had an excellent career as he has played for three NHL organizations including the Flyers, Florida Panthers and the Senators.
Remains to be seen on how the Senators will handle Giroux and it will all come down to how their season starts.
