The Bruins Received a Fair Trade Offer For Linus Ullmark But turned it down
During the past offseason, Boston Bruins' General Manager, Don Sweeney, found himself contemplating a significant decision as reports emerged of a 'fair' trade offer for Linus Ullmark, the Vezina award-winning goaltender.
According to insights from Ty Anderson of The Sports Hub, the Bruins did indeed receive an offer during the summer that aligned with 'fair market value.' However, Boston's salary cap constraints likely posed a hurdle in advancing negotiations. Additionally, Ullmark's no-trade clause introduced another layer of complexity, with the goalie holding a 16-team no-trade list and having a say in potential moves.
Anderson shed light on the situation:
My understanding and this is through some backchannel rumblings and conversations, so take it with a grain of salt, of course is that there was one team out there who had interest in giving Sweeney and the Bruins what would you consider a fair, market value return for Ullmark.
Several teams sought goaltending help during the past summer, including the New Jersey Devils, Buffalo Sabres, Ottawa Senators, Los Angeles Kings, and Philadelphia Flyers.
Ullmark's performance in the 2022-23 season was nothing short of spectacular, boasting a 40-6-1 record, a 1.89 goals-against average, and a .938 save percentage. With significant changes occurring in Boston, replicating such a season might prove challenging.
However, it's essential to note that Ullmark's trade isn't imminent. Bruins fans shouldn't anticipate seeing him moved anytime soon. The goalie remains a valuable asset for the team as they navigate the upcoming season.
