One specific - and elaborate - change has led to Linus Ullmark's Vezina calibre start to the 2022-23 season.

Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic shared an in-depth look into what the Bruins goaltender went through with one specific piece of equipment to perform at his very best.

Ullmark switched to Bauer four years ago after using CCM but apparently, the new brand's glove didn't satisfy him. As per Shinzawa:

''Bauer and CCM have a very different approach to how they make their gloves,'' said Ullmark, pausing and sighing as he recalled the process. ''Basically, I made a new glove together with them. That's what we had to do. Because it was such an abomination compared to what they had in stock and what they made. So we swapped out most of the things and created a new thing.''

According to the article, the Swede went through excessive tests and changes to basically every piece of Bauer's glove.

''Strapping options. Angle of how it closes. The T-pocket. Everything. Everything is different. The inside. The padding of the actual glove was a lot of tinkering, swap out things, change places.''

Safe to say that Ullmark knew what he needed to reach new heights with his game, as it's shown this season. The 29-year-old is leading the NHL in wins (16), goals-against-average (1.77) and save percentage (.941) and is well on his way to a potential first Vezina Trophy.
