Boston Bruins Organization Unhappy With Team USA's Medical Staff As They Fail To Provide Proper Care To McAvoy
The Boston Bruins and Team USAare in a row over how they handled Charlie McAvoy's upper-body injury.
Charlie McAvoy was hospitalized to treat an infection in his right shoulder. As a result, not only will Team USA miss his presence on the ice, but the Bruins will too.
McAvoy is the hospital not only for an infected shoulder but issues dealing with an AC joint.
Given the delicate situation surrounding McAvoy, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman updated us on the Bruins' tenuous dealings with Team USA afterward.
«I think the people who are the angriest is the team, the Bruins,» Friedman said on the Sportsnet 590 The Fan radio station. «If you read their statement today, they make it very clear that they are unhappy with how this all went down, that they don't feel that their player was given the proper treatment. It seems now that McAvoy was originally injured in the opener against Finland. There's a play where Joel Armia takes him hard into the post.
«And it sounds like - I don't know if he got a shot or something. I don't know exactly what happened, but he played Saturday, it looks like, with much more severe an injury than he was initially led to believe, and everybody was initially led to believe, which makes his performance all that more impressive.» While McAvoy would perform up to expectations on Saturday, February 15th against Canada, he would later require medical attention.
Which Team USA would drop the ball on, pushing for the Bruins to get him admitted to a hospital to address ongoing health concerns.
In what seemed like a sleight of hand, the Bruins would be the ones to get McAvoy medical attention and announce that he'd be hospitalized dealing with the upper-body issue.
The relationship between the Bruins and Team USA lacks the kind of trust that the team has had a shortage of since the Wild failed to treat Pat Maroon's medical assessments with the kind of attention needed.
The Bruins already have a gripe with the Wild medical team, considering the medicals they received last year regarding Pat Maroon's recovery timeline were very different from what they assessed once they traded for him in March 2024.
Either way, GM Bill Guerin is seriously asleep at the wheel as GM Of Team USA.
