Boston Bruins' general manager Don Sweeney made an undeniable steal when he acquired Charlie Coyle just ahead of the 2019 NHL trade deadline from the Minnesota Wild. This move, which brought the Weymouth, MA native back home, saw Coyle play a pivotal role in the Bruins' journey to Game 7 of the 2019 Stanley Cup Final. With nine goals and seven assists in 24 playoff games, Coyle's impact was undeniable.

In the fourth season of his six-year, $31.5 million contract, Coyle's $5.25 million cap hit raised some eyebrows, given the cap constraints in today's NHL. However, Coyle's versatility and ability to dominate puck possession set him apart. He can seamlessly switch between a third-line center and a second-line center, as he did during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs when Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci were sidelined.

Coyle's ability to adapt was evident in a recent game when he shifted from the 2C slot to his regular 3C position. He demonstrated his dominance, contributing to a crucial goal and leaving his coach, Jim Montgomery, and teammates impressed with his performance.

Coyle's humility and willingness to contribute wherever he's needed make him an invaluable asset to the Bruins. Whether he's on the first two lines or elsewhere, he's focused on playing his best, clocking more minutes, and helping the team succeed. It's this mindset, combined with his on-ice excellence, that continues to prove his worth and silence his critics.
