Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney held a press conference today where he went on to talk about a lot of things involving the Boston Bruins, but he confirmed that the Bruins will be down a defenseman for the rest of the year.

Just before the 4 Nations Face-Off, Boston Bruins head coach Joe Sacco finally gave the team a timeline for Hampus Lindholm to return to the Bruins lineup.

Sacco stated that Lindholm would not be returning to the lineup before the tournament, but expected him back sometime after it.

Coach Sacco on Hampus Lindholm: "It's unlikely that we're going to see Hampus before the break. We're erring on the side of caution right now as far as that goes. That's the plan right now...no setback, that's where we're at in his progress."

Well today Don Sweeney confirmed that this isn't the case.

The Bruins have been without Lindholm since November after he blocked a slap shot in a game against the St. Louis Blues.

He was originally given a 6 week timeline to return to the Bruins lineup, but it is well past that, and fans have been wondering what is going on with him.

Today, Don Sweeney finally gave an answer for fans, and it's not a good one.

Bruins Lose A Defenseman For The Remainder Of The Year

Don Sweeney just revealed in his press conference today that Hampus Lindholm will not return this season, after suffering a season ending injury.

It was just stated that Lindholm suffered a fractured patella, and had surgery, and will now miss the rest of the year.

Sweeney: Hampus Lindholm is «unlikely» to return this season. Suffered a fractured patella and had surgery.

This is a huge loss for the Bruins, especially considering the position they are in right now.

Boston sits just one spot out of a playoff spot in the Easter Conference, and having Lindholmin the lineup would be a game changer for them.
