Don Sweeney Took A Shot At Multiple Boston Bruins Top Prospects In Today's Press Conference
Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney was if he was going to give Lysell or Merkulov a look in the NHL again this year, and Sweeney disrespected both of them.
This season has been a roller coaster for the Boston Bruins, so many ups, and downs, along with inconsistent play from the entire team that has lead to a lot of speculation leading up to the NHL trade deadline.
Don Sweeney finally gave a clear indication on which way the Bruins will take at the NHL trade deadline, and it could be good for some of the Bruins top prospects.
Sweeney revealed that the Bruins are basically going to be sellers at the NHL trade deadline, without stating they are going to be sellers.
Don Sweeney said repeatedly that the Bruins will be taking a more «cautious» approach this trade deadline. Said he doesn't expect to be «overly aggressive.»
With this, the Bruins could give some top prospects like Fabian Lysell and Georgii Merkulov a good chance in the NHL.
Lysell finally made his NHL debut this season. After having a solid game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Bruins reassigned him to Providence, and have yet to give him another look.
Merkulov on the other hand has appeared in games where the Bruins have played him in terrible situations, and haven't really given him a solid chance to make a name for himself.
Don Sweeney Takes A Shot At Two Top Prospects
During his press conference today, Don Sweeney was asked if he is going to give Lysell or Merkulov a longer look in the NHL as the end of the season is coming up.
Don Sweeney stated that if they are playing well, and getting better then they will get their chance. This is just flat out disrespectful.
Asked Sweeney if he anticipates giving Lysell and/or Merkulov a longer look in the NHL down the stretch.
"Yeah, if they're playing well. ... If they're getting better, they're gonna get their opportunity to play."
Both Lysell and Merkulov have been lighting it up in the AHL, and have easily earned their chance at another look on the Boston Bruins roster, and some fans even took to social media to call out Don Sweeney for disrespecting them.
As someone who actually watches PROV games, Merkulov has more than earned it but they refused to call him up in leui of Tufte, Lettieri, Jones, Brown, etc. load of BS.
I expect (once we're officially "out" of the playoffs) that Lysell, Merk, and others will get time.
The Boston Bruins have been missing players like this in their lineup all year, and for some reason Sweeney is unwilling to give them an opportunity.
