Charlie Coyle, a native of East Weymouth, Massachusetts, not only had the privilege of sharing the ice with Patrice Bergeron for five seasons but also grew up admiring the now-retired centerman as a hometown hero.

Coyle's favorite memory of Bergeron takes him back to his childhood when he first met the six-time Selke winner.

"I think I was 12 years old, he must have been maybe 18, coming in his first year playing pro," Coyle recalled in a team-provided video. "Playing down, pretty sure it was down in Bridgewater, playing for Providence, and a bunch of 12-year-olds were bombarding Patrice Bergeron, and he was so nice and gracious. That was the first kind of taste of what he was like, and getting to meet him the first time."

Coyle continued,

"But that's exactly how he's been. He's always been like that and just so down to earth and the way he treated us and the kids made you want to cheer for him that much more, and that's something I'll always remember."

In the recently released "Brothers for Life" tribute video, Coyle expressed his admiration for Bergeron as both a fan and a teammate.

"It's been awesome growing up, watching you start out as a fan," Coyle shared. "And getting the privilege to play with you and get to see how you treat people, the love you have for everyone, and the love you have for the game and always getting better. Someone that I always looked up to."

Coyle's appreciation for Bergeron extended to his message on the Bruins' social media platforms, where he reiterated his respect and gratitude for his former teammate.

When Coyle joined the Bruins via trade during the 2019 season, he faced some struggles initially, tallying only two goals and six assists in the final 21 games.

However, he found his rhythm and became an instrumental part of the team during their quest for the Stanley Cup that postseason, amassing 16 points. Since then, Coyle has continued to grow within the veteran group, assuming a larger role with each passing season.

As the Bruins approach their centennial season this fall without the irreplaceable presence of Patrice Bergeron, Charlie Coyle is bound to take on an even more significant role in the team's lineup.

The challenge of filling Bergeron's shoes will be a collective effort as the Bruins honor the legacy of their beloved center.
