The veteran defenseman, Mike Reilly, has bid farewell to the Florida Panthers after being claimed off waivers by the New York Islanders, as reported by National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman.

Reilly's departure, despite playing only two games for the Panthers this season with no points and a -2 plus-minus rating, is a noteworthy development.

The Islanders, vying for a playoff spot in the NHL's Metropolitan Division, will benefit from Reilly's experience as they navigate the competitive season.

The looming matchups between the Panthers and Islanders, with three scheduled later this season, present the potential for Reilly to face his former team. The first encounter is swiftly approaching on December 2nd in Florida.

Although the Islanders secured Reilly without parting with any assets in the waiver claim, his presence will affect their salary cap. The 30-year-old veteran defenseman is on a one-year deal with an average annual value of $1 million.

A former 4th-round pick (98th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Reilly brings a wealth of experience to the Islanders, boasting 341 career games, 12 goals, 86 assists, and a total of 98 career points in the NHL.
