Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney kicked off his NHL trade deadline plans with a three-way trade, which saw Trent Frederic heading to the Oilers, and according to an NHL insider there may be another trade between these two teams.
In exchange the Bruins received a draft pick alongside AHL defenseman Maximus Wanner, who has shown underwhelming promise at the American Hockey League level.
The two assets acquired for Trent Frederic is not enough for Sweeney to begin his retooling process, and now it appears these two forwards are next on the chop block for the Boston Bruins.
While the loss of Frederic came as a shock, the Bruins only had to sacrifice a fourth-line role, but with Coyle and Geekie, first and second line forwards, a much higher return is needed.
A much higher return as in the possibility of acquiring a controversial forward, following a trade report of Evander Kane out of Edmonton in which revealed they are likely to part ways.
Kane will not be enough for the Oilers to acquire the two Bruins forwards, large draft capitals is in dire need for Don Sweeney's organization, and a third team would have to join the mix to provide first round draft picks.
With Morgan Geekie, a top-scoring winger, multiple first round picks are set to be in play.
Buckle up Bruins fans, this is going to be quite the busy deadline day.
