The Boston Bruins and general manager Don Sweeney weren't the busiest team in the league before the trade deadline but did make a couple of moves to strengthen themselves upfront.

Two separate moves with the Anaheim Ducks was the route Sweeney decided to go and the first one involved getting rid of David Backes' heavy contract.

Backes was brought in through free agency to be a leader and a big physical power forward however after scoring 17 goals during his first season in Boston it's been pretty downhill.

The 35 year old was placed on waivers and went unclaimed so Sweeney shipped him off to Anaheim along with the Bruins 2020 first round pick and prospect Axel Andersson.

OnSunday Backes broke his silence with a message for Boston and the Bruins.

"The Backes Family thanks the Bruinsfor the opportunity to play on an amazing team filled with incredible men. We are nothing but grateful for our time in Boston. The people we met, our daughter starting school and our son being born in Boston will forever be with us. The Backes Family is thrilled to open a new chapter with the Ducks. We are excited to become a part of the Ducks family and embrace the surrounding community. We are coming to Anaheim with full hearts, aspirational goals and new people to serve. Here we go!
