The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired goaltender Matt Murray after their previous starter, Jack Campbell, signed a five-year deal with the Edmonton Oilers.

Matt Murray won two Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins but hasn't been the same since mainly due to injury problems. After it was reported that Murray was 100% healthy and looking better than ever, it took him just one week into the season to get injured.

As per Jonas Siegel of The Athletic:

Siegel continued:

''Sheldon Keefe says Matt Murray suffered groin discomfort at the morning skate.''

''Ilya Samsonov is preparing to start tonight though Murray hasn't been ruled out, Keefe says.''

Murray was then put on long-term injured reserve as the Maple Leafs called up goaltending prospect Erik Kallgren. Murray will be sidelined for a minimum of 10 games or 24 days, meaning he won't be available until at least the second week of November.
