Even though Brad Marchand started his five-game suspension for throwing an elbow to the head of New Jersey Devils forward Marcus Johansson yesterday, he is still on his way to Tampa Bay to take part in the NHL All-Star Weekend.

"I've been trying to play a certain way for a while now. It was never my intent to get into a situation like this and to injure Marcus," Marchand said of his suspension on Thursday, per The Boston Herald. "Hopefully he has a full, healthy recovery very quickly. I'm just sorry that I let my teammates down. I know that. And I let my organization down, so I have to be better."

While Marchand spends the weekend with his fellow All-Stars, Johansson's season could be over. The Devils announced on Thursday that they have placed Johansson on injured reserve with a concussion.

While the Devils have not given any type of time table for Johansson's return, his history doesn't lead to much optimism. This is the third concussion of Johansson's career and second this season.

He missed a month of action recovering from his first concussion this year, so there is little expectation for a speedy return to the ice this time around.

Marchand will be eligible to return to the lineup on February 7 against the New York Rangers and will miss games against the Anaheim Ducks, St. Louis Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings.
