During the first intermission of last night's game between the Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings, NHL Insider Darren Dreger chimed in with a couple of updates regarding the Bruins.

He started off by mentioning that Zdeno Chara and the Bruins have had preliminary contract talks, however there's no stress or pressure from either side to get a deal done soon.

He followed that up with some very interesting thoughts in regards to Bruins forward Matt Beleskey.

"[Beleskey's] in a tough spot, there's no question about that, and...my sense is that the Boston Bruins will likely put him on waivers within the next week or so. That's not an indictment, per se, on the individual. If he passes through waivers, and, as you've just outlined, his contract...he's a tough trade. Nobody wants to take on that deal with another two-plus years remaining."

While it wouldn't be a surprising move considering Beleskey's stats, it would be a bit surprising considering the liberties some teams have taken with the Bruins this season.

Removing Beleskey from the Bruins lineup would remove some grit from the lineup, however head coach Bruce Cassidy doesn't really seem to be a fan of Beleskey's play anyways.

Are you surprised by Dreger's statement?
