During the 2021-2022 season, Donskoi represented the Seattle Kraken, his final team, in a total of 75 games.

On a heartfelt Instagram post, Donskoi expressed his gratitude and readiness for the next chapter, saying, "Thank you to everyone! Kiitos! Time for the next chapter."

Donskoi's decision to step away from the NHL stems from experiencing multiple concussions, with the most recent occurring on September 29th, 2022, during a pre-season match against the Vancouver Canucks. With a history of 7 concussions, he deemed it prudent to retire, prioritizing his well-being and his family's future.

Over his NHL journey encompassing 474 games, Joonas Donskoi made his mark with 80 goals and 128 assists, amassing a total of 208 points.
