According to a report by David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Boston Bruins are actively exploring the trade market to bolster their roster amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci.

With the potential departure of these key players, the Bruins are looking to strengthen their lineup, particularly in the top-six forward position, specifically at center. As a result, they have shown interest in acquiring Mark Scheifele from the Winnipeg Jets.

Scheifele, who carries a $6.125 million cap hit and possesses a 10-team no-trade clause, is currently in the final year of his contract. While trade discussions involving Scheifele have been relatively quiet, several teams are closely monitoring the developments in the free agent market before making any moves.

For the Bruins, who currently lack a reliable number one and number two center, Scheifele could be an ideal fit. However, the main obstacle in any potential deal is the issue of cap hit. Any transaction would require equal dollars coming back to the Bruins or being redirected elsewhere due to their cap space constraints.

The Bruins had already committed their cap space to other players when Scheifele's agent approached them about a one-year deal after it became apparent that a long-term agreement with the Bruins was unlikely for Tyler Bertuzzi.

As Greg Wyshynski of ESPN notes,

By the time the 'pivot' to a one-year deal happened, the Bruins had already committed that cap space to other players.
This further complicates the possibility of a Scheifele acquisition, as the Bruins need to navigate their cap limitations to make any significant moves.
