After a disappointing season's end, the Boston Bruins will try to makethe Stanley Cup Playoffs once again. The Bruins' general manager, Don Sweeney, continues to believe they are a playoff-calibre team and do not require a retooling despite losing some significant players this offseason.

By acquiring players through trades and free agency, the Bruins brass hopes to make some changes. For example, signing former Bruin Danton Heinen to a professional tryout contract (PTO). Danton Heinen began his career in Boston after being selected116th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2014 draft.

Danton Heinen, who had a reasonably successful season in Pittsburgh, has been offered a PTO by the Boston Bruins and intends to rejoin the team for the upcoming campaign. He recorded 26 goals, 29 assists, and 55 points in 131 games over the course of his two seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins. In addition to being a strong point-getter, he also plays all forward positions, can play almost anywhere in the lineup, has beneficial puck skills, and produces with efficiency.

The 28-year-old's projected WAR percentage, as displayed in a graph created by JFresh Hockey using cap data from CapFriendly, is 71%. Danton Heinen was the biggest "Why isn't this guy signed" question this offseason, according to JFresh. His stats and skills place him among the top bottom-six players in the league, and if he makes the team, his versatility will be a huge asset to the Bruins.
