Edmonton Oilers reportedly interested in blockbuster trade involving Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand
NHL Insider Kevin Weekes dropped another bomb this week, as he speculated that the Boston Bruins Captain Brad Marchand could be available at the NHL trade deadline.
Kevin Weekes is famous for his humor while breaking trades in the NHL. But this time around, a trade could bring us literal sadness, if we see GM Don Sweeney find a way to move Brad Marchand.
Recently, Allan Mitchell of The Athletic has linked Marchand to the Edmonton Oilers, a team that is considered Stanley Cup contenders.
Giving legitimacy to the idea that Marchand to Edmonton could happen.
Allan Mitchell of The Athletic recently suggested that the Bruins could be sellers at the deadline, depending on how their season unfolds. Mitchell believes that if Boston moves Marchand, Edmonton is the perfect landing spot.
Marchand is a known agitator in the league and would be a huge benefit to the Oilers who want to make another run at a Stanley Cup.
He's already won one with the Boston Bruins during the 2011 NHL season and is one of the last core members from that run.
His relentless forechecking, ability to generate offense, and elite play in high-danger areas make him a nightmare for opponents. Despite being 36, he remains a top-tier winger who could elevate Edmonton's Stanley Cup aspirations.
If the Oilers were to add the Bruins captain to the lineup, it would cost the team a pretty penny.
That being some of the Oilers' top prospects, such as Sam O'Reilly, and Maxim Berezkin along with a 202 first-round pick.
The Oilers unlike the Bruins still have their Stanley Cup window of contention still open.
Moving Marchand could end up meaning a retool in the future.
If the Bruins do move Marchand, GM Don Sweeney should attempt to extract all of the value he can out of the Captain in order to finance the teams next cup run.
