On a recent Sunday, the Toronto Maple Leafs found themselves in a contract negotiation battle with their goalie, Ilya Samsonov.

After an arbitration hearing on Friday, Samsonov was ultimately awarded a one-year deal worth $3.55 million. Reports indicated that both parties were far apart in their initial asks, with Samsonov seeking $4.9 million, while the team offered $2.4 million.

Samsonov's emergence as the everyday starter came as a result of Matt Murray's injury struggles.

In the previous season, the 26-year-old netminder posted an impressive 27-10-5 record with a stellar 2.33 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage in 42 games.

Meanwhile, in Boston, the Bruins have their own goaltending situation with Jeremy Swayman. Swayman is coming off a successful three-year, $2.7 million contract, with a salary cap hit of $925,000.

Despite not having the same workload as Samsonov, Swayman proved his worth, going 24-6-4 with a remarkable 2.27 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage.

His partnership with Linus Ullmark earned them the prestigious 2023 Jennings Trophy for the best combined goals-against average.

However, Swayman and his agent Lewis Gross were not satisfied with the Bruins' qualifying offer, leading the 24-year-old goalie to file for arbitration.

Throughout the off-season, Swayman expressed his desire to stay with the Bruins, confident in the team's potential and eager to continue wearing the iconic Spoked-B on his jersey.

As negotiations continue, fans eagerly await news of a deal that would secure Swayman's future as a valued member of the Boston Bruins.
