In a surprising revelation, veteran center Nate Thompson announced his retirement from the NHL during his appearance on the "Empty Netters" podcast.

After a remarkable 15-year career in the league, Thompson reflected on some memorable moments, including his time with the Tampa Bay Lightning during the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Bruins.

Recalling the intense Game 7, Thompson described it as one of the toughest playoff games he ever played.
Both teams fought fiercely for every inch of the ice, and the physicality of the Bruins left a lasting impression on him.

He praised the Bruins' skill combined with their physicality, labeling them as the "big, bad Bruins." He also stated

«I just remember it being an absolute war, it was a battle of a series. It was fun though.»

Thompson also opened up about his battle scars, having broken his foot in Game 2 of the series while blocking a shot from Zdeno Chara. Despite the injury, he pushed through the pain with dedicated treatment before each game to keep playing.

Looking back on the series, Thompson acknowledged the challenging nature of the competition but emphasized how thrilling and intense it was to be part of such a hard-fought battle on the ice.

With his NHL career behind him, Thompson expressed a desire to watch the game again and relive those memorable moments that shaped his hockey journey.
