Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney confirmed a monster move is going to happen
Don Sweeney has been seen around the league scouting for different reasons. One of them as he starts his service for Hockey Canada in preparation for the Four Nations Face-Off.
But another team that needs attention is the Boston Bruins, who are desperate for help.
The team is thin on the top six, and let's not lie to ourselves, Justin Brazeau and Morgan Geekie are temporary fixes.
The Montgomery honeymoon seems to be over, as the team isn't in dire straits but they're struggling to find their game, and the back of the net.
«Just be on the lookout. People are starting to leak,» a well-placed, NHL executive replied to RG when asked about the Bruins on Sunday.
The big question now seems to have shifted from «Will the Bruins make a shake-up move" to «When and What will that move be?»
Will the Bruins get rid of Jim Montgomery, or will they make a high-value trade?
Well before anything, the Bruins need scoring talent, and one anonymous source mentioned:
«He is looking for help, make no mistake about it,» the aforementioned NHL executive source said of the Bruins GM.
«It's no secret that he wants a scoring winger for the top-6, but don't be surprised if he snags another top-6 center. Are we talking about a legit No. 1 center? Probably not because those are hard to find on the trade market, but maybe a 1B like they already have in Lindholm.»
There have been rumors that the Bruins are interested in Trevor Zegras, but they were also discussing talent with the Utah Hockey Club.
With no mention of who they were scouting in Utah could leave us to speculation, who could the HC make available for the Bruins?
One winger who could fit the Bruins style is Lawson Crouse but hasn't had the same punch in his game since 2022-2023. The HC won't divest from anyone like Dylan Guenther, or Clayton Keller. Seems like a non-starter in my opinion.
Could it be a coaching change? Honestly, Montgomery sounds frustrated and it's another area of speculation for us all.
«It's up to you guys to figure that out, come up with the reason,» a clearly frustrated and baffled Montgomery said in his shortest postgame press conference yet. «We just weren't good enough. You guys can write, but what you think is the malaise on the team, and what's going on? We're just not playing well enough.»
It seems that we will have to exercise more patience, but Sweeney needs to find a solution, especially when it comes to scoring.
What once was a great offense in 2023-2024 has dried up this season.
