During the game, with the Bruins leading 3-0, Lauko experienced a frightening incident. He was inadvertently struck in the eye area by the skate of Chicago Blackhawks forward Jason Dickinson. Reacting swiftly, Lauko rushed to the bench and then headed down the tunnel.
Jim Montgomery, the head coach of the Boston Bruins, was quoted by Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe in a tweet, assuring everyone that Lauko's eye was alright after the unsettling incident.
On the other hand, ESPN's rinkside reporter, Ray Ferraro, suggested that the skate didn't make direct contact with the eye but landed just above it. As the third period wound down, there were no further updates from ESPN or the Boston Bruins.
Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic later tweeted to confirm that Lauko's eye was indeed okay.
At the time of his injury, Jakub Lauko had logged 9 minutes and 13 seconds of ice time, registering two shots and one hit. The 23-year-old winger, drafted by the Bruins in the third round (77th overall) of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, has yet to record any points in the six games he's played this season.
The Bruins' goals were contributed by Pavel Zacha (1), Matt Poitras (3), and Trent Frederic (2), with goalie Jeremy Swayman notching a 23-save shutout in the winning effort.
