Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery just sent a clear message to Morgan Geekie after benching him multiple games
Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery has sent a clear message to forward Morgan Geekie after he was benched for multiple games.
Last year Morgan Geekie was not a star for the Bruins, but was very solid for them, and Montgomery has been waiting to see that version this year.
The past three games Geekie was benched by Montgomery as he has not helped the Bruins out at all this year having just two points in 11 games played this season.
Yesterday we finally last years version of Morgan Geekie show up for the Boston Bruins as they took on the St. Louis Blues.
Heading into the third period the Bruins were trailing 2-0, when Morgan Geekie ended up scoring his first of the year to give the Bruins momentum, which would spark a third period comeback as the Bruins would score 3 goals and win the game by the score of 3-2.
«Really proud of him,» Montgomery told Andy Brickley, as seen on NESN postgame coverage. «He sat out, maybe, three games in a row. I could see his work ethic in practice coming and coming. That's his best game of the year. That's the Morgan Geekie we know can help the Bruins win every night.»
Geekie's goal came 4:53 into the third period off of a broken play from David Pastrnak.
«It was good. It's always nice to get the first one, especially just coming back in the lineup,» Geekie told reporters, per team-provided audio. «It helps a lot. It's good mentally, for sure.»
A lot of fans were not happy with this move when it was announced, as it saw Matt Poitras get sent down to Providence and Geekie come back into the lineup playing top line minutes, but last night it worked for the Bruins.
Although it was the St. Louis Blues they were playing, lets wait and see how this team does against one of the better teams in the league.
