Boston Bruins fans have been expressing frustration with head coach Jim Montgomery over the absence of young forward Fabian Lysell from the NHL roster. However, it's important to understand that Montgomery isn't the one who makes the final decisions about call-ups from the AHL, and the blame he's receiving is unfair.
For those who don't realize how the system works, the head coach doesn't have full control over bringing players up from the Providence Bruins, the Bruins' AHL affiliate.
While Montgomery's input is certainly considered, especially when it comes to which players might help the team, the final say lies with the Bruins' management and front office. This group, led by Don Sweeney and other executives, makes the decisions based on cap space, roster needs, and long-term plans.
Lysell, a talented prospect, has a lot of promise, and many fans are eager to see him join the Boston Bruins however, he's still developing, and management likely feels he needs more time in the AHL to hone his skills and adjust to playing at the professional level.
Rushing a young player into the NHL too early can sometimes do more harm than good, and the Bruins seem to be taking a cautious approach with Lysell's development.
So while fans might be frustrated with Lysell's absence, it's not fair to point fingers at Montgomery. His role is to coach the players he's given, and while he can offer suggestions, he isn't the one pulling the strings when it comes to roster moves. For now, Bruins fans will have to be patient and trust that the team knows what's best for Lysell's growth.
