A couple major takeaways from the Boston Bruins embarrassing 5-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight.

The Boston Bruins continued to struggle on Monday after suffering a 5-1 loss to one of the worst teams in the Columbus Blue Jackets at TD Garden.

The Bruins now sit with a record of 8-9-3, not much better then the Columbus Blue Jackets who have a record of 7-9-2 and are not supposed to be competitive.

The offensive struggles continued as well for the Bruins as they were only able to bury one goal, while giving up two short handed goals.

Moreover, the power play as well continued to struggle for the Bruins as they went one for six tonight, their only goal came by from Charlie Coyle.

Although the power play was awful once again, the penalty kill was perfect for the Boston Bruins going 2-for-2 against the Blue Jackets power play.

To open the first period tonight at TD Garden, the Columbus Blue Jackets were able to put three pucks past Jeremy Swayman.

The Blue Jackets had a great bounce back game from their 5-1 loss to the Canadiens, while the Bruins had a terrible game following their loss to the Blues.

Elvis Merzlikins was solid for the Blue Jackets stopping 29 out of 30 shots from the Boston Bruins tonight, gaining his forth win of the season.

On the other hand, Jeremy Swayman once again had a terrible night for the Boston Bruins allowing five goals on 29 shots, and had a .828 save percentage.

With this loss Jeremy Swayman now has a record of 5-7-2 on the year, and if the Bruins want to be competitive like they said in the off-season Swayman needs to find his game.

The Bruins will not be in a playoff spot for much longer if their game does not change.
