Utah Hockey Club's defenseman Robert Bortuzzo was possibly facing a suspension after violating a rule during the game against the Bruins the other night.
The rule Bortuzzo broke was the fact that he jumped off the bench and immediately dropped the gloves which is rule 70.2.
This rule is in place so that players cannot just jump off the bench and start a fight to end a play when things aren't going their way.
A player was suspended during preseason for breaking this rule in Tampa Bay Lightning's forward Connor Geekie who ended up getting a one-game suspension.
Mark Kastelic was towards the end of his shift and Bortuzzo was fresh off the bench, causing a stir by Bruins fans.
Two days have passed since this incident took place, and there has not been an announcement from the NHL Player Safety regarding the broken NHL rule.
So it's safe to assume that no extra punishment will be handed out to Utah Hockey Club's defenseman Robert Bortuzzo.
Which is unfortunate because he did violate a rule, and if players can just break them and get away with it, then what type of standard are you holding for everyone else?
The NHL Player Safety isn't going to get every call right, but the obvious ones like this one need to be called.
