The Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers could be trade partners, as GM Don Sweeney could ship Brad Marchand to a contender.

While both teams have found success in the 2020s, the Edmonton Oilers have found themselves in the Stanley Cup finals.

The Oiler's recent successes in 2024, which led to a trip to the finals could mean the window of contention is still open.

This is where Brad Marchand would come into play for the Oilers, as a trade candidate.

This is an article about the Bruins dealing Brad Marchand at the deadline to the Oilers. Outrageous to even suggest such a thing, but The Athletic's Fluto Shinzawa addressed the possibility earlier this week.

The Bruins themselves could utilize Marchand to acquire futures they've failed to acquire recently. But The Athletic's Fluto Shinzawa has an interesting perspective on the team's situation.

Shinzawa wrote, «Kicking the futures can down the road has finally caught up to the Bruins. Not having first-round picks in four of the last seven drafts has helped create the current situation.»

The Bruins are 25-21-6 with 56 points this season and are considered a "bubble playoff" team at this point. Instead of seeking help this season, they should end up being sellers, especially if means they can restock their draft capital and prospect pool.

Marchand would fit into the Oilers lineup well, as he's a speedy winger, who has a finishing touch and would fit into the top-six for the team.

The Return

They could get prospects like Beau Akey, Matthew Savoie, Maxim Berezkin or Sam O'Reilly in return. Not to mention, the team owns their 1st round pick for the 2026 NHL Draft.

Given the Oilers are strapped for cash, they'd have to fit in a third team for his $6.125 million cost.

He could end up being an expensive rental for the Oilers, should they fail to extend him, which should be an goal for GM Stan Bowman.
