Some tragic news just struck the Ottawa Senators organization after an announcement revealed a member of the organization has passed away.

The Ottawa Senators organization just announced that analyst Shawn Simpson has tragically passed away at the ago of 56-years-old.

The announcement was made on social media, and has been the main talk in the hockey community this morning, being posted on both Twitter and Facebook.

Shawn Simpson has openly talked about his struggles with mental health in the past, and shared with fans that he had been close to taking his own life before.

He would openly talk about the fact that he had depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts, and would encourage fans that have been dealing with the same feelings to go and seek help.

One of his best friends, Ian Mendes shared his thoughts upon hearing about Simpson's passing this morning:

Who was Shawn Simpson

Shawn Simpson was an undersized goaltender in the 1980's, and faced a massive challenge to try and make his dreams come true by making it to professional hockey.

His dreams would come true during the 1986 NHL Entry Draft as he was drafted by the Washington Capitals with the 60th overall pick in the third-round. He would briefly play in three seasons with the Capitals affiliate team in the American Hockey League before calling it a career and retiring.

Unfortunately for Simpson he was never able to complete his true dream of making it to the NHL, but did get the chance to play professional hockey. After hanging up the skates, Simpson would pick up a career in broadcasting, working for the Capitals television team, and was eventually hired as a scout by the Capitals.

Simpson was a scout for the Washington Capitals for six years, up until 1997 before he was promoted to the director of hockey operations, while also being the General Manager of the AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates. In 2004 he would leave the organization to join the Toronto Maple Leafs as a scout.

He is more known for his time in Ottawa when he ended up joining TSN 1200 in 2010 where he would co host "The Drive" and had his own show called "Simmer Down".

This is where fans really came to love Simmer. He called things how he saw it and fans loved him for it. In 2023 unfortunately he had his contract terminated by the Bell Media.

A true tragic loss for the hockey community. Your demons have finally come to an end. Rest in Peace Simmer.
