The Boston Bruins could be set for a return to the organization by Bruins legend, Zdeno Chara. He could help the Bruins thrive in a consultant role.

The Boston Bruins need help on more than just the ice, as the Boston Globe has reported the team is in discussions with the former Captain.

The role would place Chara in an advisory role with the Bruins, but nothing has been confirmed.

The Globe was informed by two Bruins employees who have chosen to remain anonymous.

Two sources, each with knowledge of the machinations of the front office, confirmed Chara's new role in separate discussions with the Globe. Both sources, who are not team employees, requested to remain anonymous.

A team spokesperson, apprised of the Globe report at approximately 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, said Sweeney would issue an update later in the afternoon or early evening about a potential role for Chara in the organization.

The 47-year-old was seen at the team's Brighton practice facility today, and is a future Hall of Famer.

Could his guidance set the team back on the winning path that they've lost with former Coach Jim Montgomery and Interim Coach Joe Sacco?

The Bruins have not looked like themselves during the game against the Buffalo Sabres, which would pour seven goals on Jeremy Swayman.

They'd look disheveled, and despondent not the same kind of squad we saw in 2023 that featured Patrice Bergeron, and David Krejci.

Goal after goal, the Bruins also offered no pushback, no fight, zero jam, once-proud franchise characteristics that have declined precipitously in recent years, particularly post- the retirement of frontline centers Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci in the summer of 2023.

The fight and the toughness look to have evaporated from the B's.

That could be one place, where Chara could offer some expertise, as the towering 6'9" defenseman is known for.

The Bruins lack of meaningful play, and ability to stifle the opponents could see the Bruins miss the playoffs.

That hasn't happened since 2016, when GM Don Sweeney took over the spot. Chara would be able to provide a spark in the lineup, as someone who cherishes hard work. During his time away from the NHL he's run triathlons, marathons, and iron-man competitions.

His 1,880 games in the NHL, and 220 in the playoffs could offer a valuable perspective the team has missed all season.
