The Boston Bruins have some tough decisions to make ahead of the trade deadline. They could be sellers and quickly retool the lineup and remain a competitive team in the NHL.

The Bruins could afford to be seller, and acquire some needed draft capital if they decide to move on from veteran players.

But players like Morgan Geekie could get a decent return for the Bruins, and push them closer to their goal of staying in the playoff picture.

Geekie will be a restricted free agent (RFA) despite a small slump at the beginning of the season. He hasn't been able to produce like he did last season scoring a career-high of 39 points, (17 G, 22 A).

Despite his latest slump, where he'd only score one goal in 18 games, he's once again found his scoring capabilities yet again.

It might not be a bad idea to keep Geekie around, considering since the beginning of December he's scored 21 points (13 G, 8 A) in 26 games for the Bruins.

Geekie has been particularly effective offensively over the last seven games with five goals and two assists. He has a three-game goal streak, and his two third-period goals against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday helped the B's pick up two valuable points in the standings.

Geekie has taken advantage of his placement on the first line with Pavel Zacha, and David Pastrnak. He's built chemistry with the two forwards and has outscored the opponents, 6-1 at even strength on the ice.

"It's good. It's growing," Geekie told reporters postgame Saturday when asked about his chemistry with Pastrnak. "We've played together for a while now. It's always easier when you learn the habits of the guys you're playing with.

In 46 games this season he's posted 26 points (15 G, 11 A) and could set a career-high scoring 46 points if he continues at the pace he's on.

Geekie offers the Bruins versatility in the lineup, he's able to play center and was promoted from the second line this year.

He offers the Bruins secondary scoring which the team has lacked since Jake DeBrusk left, and is one of only three Bruins players with 15 goals scored.

While the Bruins could get a second or third-round pick for Geekie, re-signing him might come at a discount.

AFP Analytics released its midseason extension projections last week, and they came up with a four-year, $13 million ($3.25 million salary cap hit) contract for Geekie.

Those numbers are merely a projection and not based on reporting. It could take more or less than a $3.25 million AAV to keep Geekie, but if that's the ballpark

With news of the NHL's salary cap being raised this year, it could stand to reason that he is re-signed with the team, as an affordable depth scorer instead of just a trade option.
