It's been an up and down year for the Boston Bruins, and their record shows just how inconsistent they have been. They currently have a 25-21-6 record and hold onto the top wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference as of right now.
Even though they currently hold a playoff spot, every team that is in the race for the playoffs in the East hold multiple games in hand. If the Bruins want to secure a playoff spot they need to put multiple wins together.
Because of how the season is going for the Bruins, Cam Neely openly admitted that the Bruins could either be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline, depending on where they are sitting.
If the Boston Bruins do plan on being buyers, they need to add depth down the center of their lineup.
According to The Fourth Period, the Boston Bruins have officially been linked to a new center man. The Fourth Period reported that the Boston Bruins have shown some serious interest in Seattle Krakens Yanni Gourde.
Gourde is up there in age, being 33-years-old, and is expected to be a unrestricted free agent at the end of the year. Seattle is currently not in a playoff spot so Gourde will more than likely be getting shopped at the trade deadline.
If the Boston Bruins were to acquire Gourde, he would give them more depth down the middle, which is something they desperately need.
Gourde has also been known for his defensive play throughout his career, and the Bruins desperately need some help with that as well. This is a big reason he went on to win two Stanley Cups with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
In 35 games this season, Gourde has six goals, and 10 assists for 16 points on the year, but the Bruins would not be bringing him in to score goals, his depth play and experience would go a long way with the organization.
He also provides some grit with 58 hits on the season, and if the Bruins lose out on Trent Frederic, he seems like the perfect replacement player.
