Things Get Heated Between Marchand And McAvoy
As most players were finding their groove and rookies were adapting to new drills, some Bruins veterans wasted no time getting physical. In Group A, alternate captain Charlie McAvoy and captain Brad Marchand battled for the puck in the early session, with Marchand coming out on top.
When asked about the physical intensity, Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery made it clear that this approach will persist throughout camp, the preseason, and the 2023-24 regular season.
"We want physical," Montgomery stated plainly. "We need to be a more physical team this year compared to last year. So, we appreciate the physicality, especially when players are competing for roster spots. It's expected when the drills call for it."
Montgomery also noted,
"We've become a bit bigger and heavier as a team. Additionally, we recognize the need to be more physical around the net, both offensively and defensively. We identified this as an area for improvement based on what we learned from last year's playoffs."
