Washington Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom made a remarkable return in January after hip resurfacing surgery. However, his hip's response this summer remains uncertain.

Hip resurfacing surgery has had mixed success in hockey, with players like Ryan Kesler and Mike Sillinger unable to continue their careers after the procedure.

«They dislocate your joint,» Jovanovski said to Custance. «Pull it out of your leg. Then shave the femoral head down to a certain size and cap it with titanium. Then do the same for your socket, shaving out the socket and hammering in a new socket where everything kind of joins together.»

The Undertaker, a WWE Hall of Famer, returned to work after the surgery but with reduced matches.

Backstrom's future impact is uncertain, and the Capitals may place him on long-term injured reserve if he can't continue playing. General Manager Brian MacLellan will evaluate Backstrom's career during training camp, given the uncertainties surrounding his health after the surgery.
