Blacklisted NHL'er sends a message to Vladimir Putin
Brendan Leipsic found himself embroiled in a scandal when he made derogatory remarks about a fellow player's girlfriend, targeting her appearance and physique.
As a consequence, on May 8, 2020, he faced the repercussions of being placed on waivers and subsequently having his contract terminated.
In a surprising turn of events, Leipsic recently sent a letter to Vladimir Putin, expressing his desire to acquire Russian citizenship.
He has already obtained a Russian passport and, if successful, would have the opportunity to represent the Russian National Team.
Since the incident, Leipsic has been playing in the KHL for SKA St. Petersburg, having joined CSKA Moscow in August 2021.
It seems that he has developed an affinity for Russia, leading to his pursuit of citizenship from the country's leader.
Originally from Winnipeg and once drafted by the Nashville Predators, Leipsic has spent the past three seasons in the KHL following his departure from the Washington Capitals.
