The Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks have pulled off a late night trade that sees four players switching teams.
The Sharks Twitter broke the news first:
The #SJSharkshave acquired Jacob MacDonald and Martin Kaut from Colorado in exchange for Matt Nieto and Ryan Merkley. Both Kaut and Merkley were once prized prospects for their respective team but never made that jump. Maybe a change of scenery will help both players.
McDonald, 29, has appeared in 33 of his 76 career games this season. The defenseman has 2 goals and 10 assists with the Panthers and Avalanche dating back to 2018.
Nieto is an interesting story. The career depth player has put a respectable 190 points in 615 games. The 30-year-old will now have two stints with San Jose and Colorado:
2013-16: Sharks
2016-20: Avalanche
2020-23: Sharks
Today: Back to Avalanche
