The Bruins have been busy this morning, but amid the addition of Tyler Bertuzzi and the David Pastrnak extension, the club announced some bad news as well.
Already tight to the salary cap, Don Sweeney had a decision to make with injured forwards Nick Foligno and Taylor Hall. According to CapFriendly, one injury is substantial enough for LTIR:
#NHLBruinshave placed Taylor Hall on long-term injured reserve (LTIR)
This move creates $6M in LTIR cap space.
Hall was injured Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks and returned home with two games remaining on the road trip in Edmonton and Calgary. The forward has 16 goals and 20 assists in 58 games this season.
Boston now has around $6 million in cap space. It will be interesting to see if Hall is out until playoffs or not and if the Bruins will pull a similar move to the Lightning in previous seasons.
The team also recalled Jakub Lauko from Providence of the AHL.
