The Boston Bruins have been having a great season despite dealing with a slew of injuries.

One of the Bruins players who's been having a tough time dealing with injuries is David Backes. The injuries aren't a conditioning issue, rather just really flukey incidents.

The latest of course happened against the Tampa Bay Lightning when he had to be helped off the ice after getting cut on his leg by a skate.

Backes obviously didn't return to the game and Bruins general manager Don Sweeney gave an update on the veteran forward.

"David Backes returned late [Saturday] night with the team. He did meet with our doctors, and they reevaluated the cut. They did some work on it. Obviously, you've got great medical care down in Tampa; we're thankful for that, but our guys wanted their own hands and eyes on it," said Sweeney. "A timetable hasn't been set for him.
"You can imagine it was a pretty significant cut, and now that it's been, sort of, re-cleaned and addressed accordingly, we'll just let nature take its course, let it heal. I don't have a definitive timetable on that one, certainly not day to day. I would suspect he'll be out for a couple games, and then we'll reevaluate."

Backes already missed 17 games earlier this season because of a bout with diverticulitis and a couple more because of suspension.
