The University of Vermont's Men's Hockey team has made a significant coaching change, parting ways with head coach Todd Woodcroft.

The decision comes as a result of an investigation conducted by UVM's Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity, which revealed Woodcroft's failure to meet the high expectations set by the university's athletic department.

Inappropriate text messages with a UVM student, crossing professional boundaries, were cited as the specific conduct leading to Woodcroft's dismissal.

The university's statement did not disclose the contents of the messages or whether the student had any affiliation with the hockey program.

Woodcroft brought an extensive background to his role at UVM, having worked in various capacities with NHL teams.

His experience includes positions as a video coach, scout, and assistant coach with teams like the Minnesota Wild, Washington Capitals, and Winnipeg Jets.

He also contributed as a scout for organizations in Calgary and Los Angeles and served as an assistant coach for Belarus and Sweden in international tournaments, as well as in the KHL.

In light of Woodcroft's departure, Assistant Coach Steve Wiedler has stepped into the head coaching position.

The University of Vermont now faces the challenge of moving forward and maintaining a strong program amidst this coaching change.
