The Boston Bruins have been courting Ilya Kovalchuk going back to when he decided to return to the NHL.

Kovalchuk ended up choosing the Los Angeles Kings over Boston and it ended up being a disaster.

The Kings hit a downward spiral and Kovalchuk wasn't able to find a fit in the lineup which led to him looking like a shell of his former self. The Kings and Kovalchuk agreed to mutually terminate his contract and Kovalchuk hit the open market around the holidays.

The Bruins and general manager Don Sweeney spoke withKovalchuk however Boston just wasn't sure if Kovalchuk had anything left.

The sniper ended up signing with Montreal who had plenty of openings in their top six thanks to injuries and the forward has been reborn in Montreal.

There's been chatter we might see a trade between the two heated rivals, however Pierre LeBrun isn't so sure as he gave anupdate on the situation.

"I suppose the Bruins could come calling Montreal closer to Feb. 24. Stranger things have happened but I was told this week that ship has probably sailed. Given Boston could have gotten him earlier without surrendering assets, spending a draft pick to get him now from a heated rival probably isn't a great look."

Would you bite the bullet anyways and bring Kovalchuk in at the deadline?
