Boston Bruins young defenseman Charlie McAvoy has been labeled as the future of the organization on the blue line and with due right.
The kid looks like a superstar in the making without a doubt, and while the defenseman didn't play Saturday and speculation builds he might be suffering from a concussion, there's still some good news surrounding the defenseman and his future.
According to NHL Insider NickKypreos of Sportsnet, the Bruins and McAvoy have started discussion regarding a contract extension.
"He'd love to avoid the bridge contract," Kypreos said Saturday on Hockey Night in Canada. "I think it's safe to say that his representation will look towards the Aaron Ekblad contract extension with the Florida Panthers that had an [average annual value] of $7.5 million." "With an aging Chara, it's certainly something for the Boston Bruins to consider," Kypreos said.
It's a contract that many people would be more than happy to see McAvoy sign, would you sign him to a long term extension worth about $7.5million a season?
