Don Sweeney should anticipate the move and work towards signing a skillful winger to replace Debrusk's production immediately.
That could be, the Columbus Blue Jackets own, Patrik Laine.
The 6'5" 210lb winger, is one of the best goal-scoring forwards in the NHL when healthy.
But he hasn't been lately and is in the player assistance program and recently made a request for the Blue Jacket to trade him as soon as possible.
The 25 year old left the team, a little over month after fracturing his clavicle in mid-December, and experienced issues during his recovery.
He would only play 18 games with the Blue Jackets, scoring 9 points( 6 G, 3 A) with a plus/minus of -10.
Prior to 2023-2024 Laine was a point-per-game played and has scored at least 60 points in three different seasons.
With the need to take some of the burden off of David Pastrnak, the Bruins could make an attempt to trade for Laine. And as a 25-year old, the Bruins should at least make an attempt find a price for the winger.
The cost would be of course, expensive, as it could be a top-prospect and a roster player packaged for the winger. But ultimately could be a gamebreaker when healthy and could provide elite firepower in the playoffs.
If the Bruins do take a shot at the winger, they'll have to consider his 10-team NTC and $8.7 Million price point as cons, perhaps Sweeney could convince Don Waddell to eat some cap space to make the trade a little bit less painful?
