Don Sweeney targeting 6'7 defensemen ahead of free agency
The Boston Bruins are targeting a massive 6'7 defensemen in Nikita Zadorov ahead of free agency.
The most creditable NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has reported that Nikita Zadorov will be heading to free agency this off-season after him and the Vancouver Canucks were unable to agree on a contract.
Back in November it was announced that the Vancouver Canucks acquired defenceman Nikita Zadorov from the Calgary Flames for a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NHL draft and a third-round pick in 2026.
According to Friedman the Canucks and Zadorov's camp were not far off from reaching a deal but neither side wanted to budge which is leading to the reason on why Zadorov is going to test free agency.
Elliotte said it's unlikely Zadorov is re-signing.
He heard Canucks weren't far away from his asking price but it got to a point where neither side was willing to budge even though Zadorov was willing to leave money on the table to stay with the Canucks.
The Boston Bruins are looking to make some big changes in the off-season and bringing in some size on the back end wouldn't be a terrible idea.
Zadorov is coming off a two-year $3,750,000 contract where he earned $7.5 million in total, and if the Bruins could get him near that same contract this would be a steal, as Zadorov proved to be effective for the Canucks during his time there and during the Stanley Cup playoffs.
