The Boston Bruins were reportedly a serious landing destination for a former two-time Stanley Cup Champion.
Earlier in the week, the St. Louis Blues ended up announcing on January 29th that they were placing Brandon Saad on unconditional waivers with the purpose of terminating his contract.
This was announced after they already ended up placing him on waivers, and he ended up clearing it.
No one ended up claiming waivers, and a big reason for that was due to the fact that he had a $4.5 million cap hit until the end of the 2025-26 season.
Now that he is officially a free agent, after having his contract terminated, a lot of teams will be showing interest in him, and according to The Hockey News, the Boston Bruins were one of the teams that emerged as a serious landing spot for the former two-time Stanley Cup Champion.
Just last season, Brandon Saad had 26 goals, 16 assist for 42 points with the St. Louis Blues.
This year has been a bit of a down year, it could be because he is regressing, but a change of scenery could do him wonders as well. In 43 games this year before having his contract terminated, he had 7 goals, 9 assists for 16 points.
According to The Hockey News, the Boston Bruins are believed to be a team that could use someone like Saad.
This year offense has been a problem for the Bruins, especially depth scoring. Saad could bring them the offense they need to help make a push to get back into a playoff spot this year.
The Bruins have limited cap space, but if they could sign him to an affordable deal, I don't see why you don't take the chance.
The Bruins have really weak depth when it comes to their wingers, bringing in someone like Saad could boost their depth, and he could play middle-six minutes giving them extra depth scoring. He could also find a spot on the Bruins power play which has been terrible this season.
Unfortunately for the Boston Bruins, Elliotte Friedman just confirmed that the Vegas Golden Knights have officially signed Brandon Saad.
