This was to improve their defense, and they are in the middle of the ice, but they still have one more thing to address.
They need to add a goal scorer, if we're not discussing the Jeremy Swayman issue which is an urgent topic for another post.
The Bruins improved their blueline while ignoring many goal-scoring forwards available including former Red Wing Daniel Sprong.
The Bruins will approach 2024-2025 with a score-by-committee attitude. Of which they can't solely rely upon perennial 30-goal scorer, David Pastrnak they will need to add to their depth. In this case they can utilize Fabian Lysell and Georgii Merkulov as unproven solutions.
But they should look to the New York Islanders, for a proven solution in Oliver Wahlstrom.
Wahslstrom's been familiar in the Boston area since 2010 thanks to this:
Scoring continues to be a key part of the New England-born player's game.
Wahlstorm was picked 11th overall in 2018, with the idea that he'd be a mainstay on the top line with Matthew Barzal, but he has yet to perform up to expectations. He'd be a low-risk high-reward trade for GM Don Sweeney.
In 193 NHL games, he's scored 67 points( 33 G, 34 A) and is currently an RFA in the Islanders system, which is now cash-strapped, with only $50K worth of cap space left after signing Anthony Duclair.
The Bruins would of course, have to go through arbitration with Wahlstrom or offer him a contract that would be agreeable, but he should be acquired for a bargain contract, like he had last season.
The Bruins can take advantage of Wahlstrom who needs a fresh start, which could be afforded to him with in his native Boston habitat.
