Unexpected turn in the Boston Bruins acquiring Trevor Zegras
At the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, it was reported that Trevor Zegras would end up in Montreal, as the Ducks and Canadiens had a deal in place. Unfortunately, that NHL Insider was proven wrong as the deal fell through.
Numerous rumors surrounding NHL teams, as many were interested in acquiring the superstar forward. According to a recent report, while the earlier deal fell through the Canadiens could be in the running to obtain Zegras still.
Canadiens and Ducks had agreed on a trade that would have sent Zegras and a second-round pick to Montreal. In return, Anaheim would have received defenseman Logan Mailloux and a first-round pick. But as things do in the NHL, talks fell apart.
"According to Marco Normandin, the Montreal Canadiens and Anaheim Ducks had a trade lined up that would have sent Zegras and a 2nd round draft pick to Montreal for a package including the 1st round pick they eventually used to select Michael Hage. Apparently, the trade was denied in the final moments leading to the pick, as it's fair to assume Montreal was counting on Hage being available, which may have been the deciding factor in the deal." Keiran Bray of Hockey Talk Daily said. Zegras 2023-2024 was spent nursing his injuries, as he only played 31 games last season scoring 15 points( 6 G, 9 A) with a plus/minus of -1.
Will GM Kent Hughes be bold enough to attempt the trade again, or should GM Don Sweeney be bold and step in to make a deal?
The Bruins do have the assets to make this trade work, as they have the next 3 years of 1st round picks and some good prospects in Providence.
It's a matter of willpower at this point, as the Bruins need top-six help.
