Shattenkirk, 35, was a member of the Boston Bruins last season playing 61 games and scoring 24 points( 6 G, 18 A). While there are arguably defensive flaws in his game, his offensive talent makes up for it. He can contribute to his next team's power-play unit as well.
Three are three teams who could add Shattenkirk to their roster on a PTO:
With a thin blueline, the Edmonton Oilers have rumors swirling around the league they'll be bringing in veterans to fight for a spot during camp. With the loss of Philip Broberg and Cody Ceci being traded, the Oilers have enough flexibility to add in-season. But the thing is, they need help now. Shattenkirk and Bouchard on a power play would be a great combination.
The Flames need help defensively and could bring in Shattenkirk on a PTO. While there's little chance the Flames land in the playoffs, it's interesting to see what kind of team he'd be joining. There's a chance he plays big minutes, so it'll be interesting to see if GM Craig Conroy chooses to add him.
The Senators have some open spots to add on the right side, which Shattenkirk could be a beneficial add. He'd be a great person to transform their power-play with 210 power-play points in 952 NHL games.
Shattenkirk would solidify the Senators defense.
