Morgan Geekie's Fate with the Boston Bruins Has Been Confirmed
According to NHL Insider Mike Grinnell of the Spittin' Chiclets Podcast, it appears Morgan Geekie and the Boston Bruins haven't had any contact lately. Are the Bruins going to trade him?
Morgan Geekie helped push the Boston Bruins to their victory over the Colorado Avalanche yesterday scoring two goals.
Geekie has been a fixture on the Bruins' top six, deservedly or not that is a debatable topic.
Last season, the top-six forward had a career year under the coaching of Jim Montgomery. He'd score 39 points (17 G, 22 A) in 76 games with the Bruins and prove he still has potential worth considering.
This season, he's scored 26 points (15 G, 11 A) in what could be another career-high for him, as he's on pace for 46 points.
So why have the Bruins given him a cold shoulder?
He's played great hockey according to Interim Coach Joe Sacco.
«I think he's seeing it offensively right now,» interim head coach Joe Sacco said of Geekie. «From my standpoint, that's what I see right now.
That line has developed some chemistry here in the last little while. They're finding their spots in the offensive zone, reading off each other well, and Geeks is doing a good job. He's finishing his chances.
According to President Cam Neely, they'll have to examine all options available for the forward.
But with team president Cam Neely already acknowledging that the Bruins will have to «look at two paths» before the March 7 trade deadline as the team remains firmly on the playoff bubble, there is also a second path the Bruins could choose with Geekie.
The Bruins don't have to make a decision on Geekie right this moment, just like they don't have to pick a trade deadline path just yet. But moves are starting to get made, led by Friday night's three-team blockbuster that included Hall as part of a much bigger trade that sent Mikko Rantanen to Carolina and Martin Necas and Jack Drury to Colorado. So it looks like, the Bruins could be ramping up discussions regarding Geekie's future with the team.
It'd be quite unfortunate if they decided to give up on him during the middle of the season. But when you have assets that can put you back on the right-path, it may mean sacrificing depth pieces.
Which could be Geekie's fate with the Bruins at this point in his career.
