A Development Has Surfaced in The Boston Bruins Trading Two Players Before The Four Nations Tournament
Since pieces are moving before the trade deadline has arrived, could the Boston Bruins move Morgan Geekie, and Trent Frederic beforehand? The team could retool quicker than we expected.
The Boston Bruins are 5th in the Atlantic Division, with a record of 26-22-6, and could end up missing the playoffs.
Cam Neely and GM Don Sweeney said they wouldn't make a move before they knew they were out of the playoffs for good.
But with multiple injuries plaguing the team, and the B's lacking a true 1st-line center they may have to retool.
The Bruins are actually one of seven teams within seven points of a wild card spot. There were just four teams in the East within seven points of a wild card berth on this date last season.
The Bruins are in a troubling spot as they could end up in a similar situation in 2015-2016 where they were three points behind the Flyers for the wild card spot.
With regular season games left, and the trajectory a rocky path, could they move Trent Frederic or Morgan Geekie?
They could utilize trades to begin the retool, and reconstruct a lineup which isn't Stanley Cup worthy entirely.
It's difficult to see what kind of return they could get for Geekie, but getting $2 million in cap space off the books could be addition by subtraction as well.
However, even if the Bruins bounce back, Geekie could still create trade chatter if he continues to struggle. The Bruins have limited cap space, and they could consider getting his $2 million cap hit off the books to make other moves elsewhere.
The Bruins should target legitimate Stanley Cup contenders in order to receive top value for either forward, should they decide to move one, or both.
Morgan Geekie has played 49 games for the Bruins and scored 27 points (15 G, 12 A).
Trent Frederic has played 52 games and scored 14 points (7 G, 7 A).
Would you trade Frederic or Geekie?
