This season has been a struggle for the Boston Bruins, and has been super inconsistent. Due to this, president Cam Neely last month stated that the team will either be buying or re-tooling at the trade deadline this year.
If the Boston Bruins do take the route of selling at the NHL trade deadline, Trent Frederic's time with the Bruins organization is more than likely coming to an end.
The former first-round pick of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft is a pending unrestricted free agent, and would be a good trade chip for the Boston Bruins due to the style of hockey he plays.
According to The Fourth Period, they reported that three teams have been linked to the gritty forward. These teams include the Vancouver Canucks, Washington Capitals, and the Minnesota Wild.
For the Canucks, they could use some work in their bottom six, and Trent Frederic would be able to do that perfectly for them while also bringing some more grit to their lineup.
The Washington Capitals have proved to be a serious threat this year, and are the top team in the Eastern Conference standings. They will obviously be buyers at the trade deadline, and someone like Frederic would give them more experience in the playoffs, and can play a similar role to Tom Wilson.
Finally, the Wild could use some depth in their lineup, especially with some of the injury news they have suffered recently. Frederic would slot in perfectly on their third line.
There are some rumours that Frederic could be moved before the Four Nations Faceoff tournament that will take place soon.
It is going to be interesting to see what route the Bruins do end up taking at the NHL trade deadline regardless if Frederic is traded or not.
