defenseman Charlie McAvoy was admitted to the Mass. General Hospital in the Boston area, and now there is a official word on his status for the championship game against Team Canada.

It was announced yesterday that Charlie McAvoy was going to miss the Sweden-USA game due to an upper-body injury, but little did everyone know it would turn out to be a bit more serious.

Following Team USA's game vs Sweden, Charlie McAvoy was admitted to the Mass. General Hospital, and it was revealed that he was dealing with an infection that stemmed from a minor injury.

After this news was reported, it was also reported that it was unclear whether or not he would be able to play in the final game on Thursday vs Team Canada.

Now the Boston Bruins have released an official statement on if Charlie McAvoy will be able to play in the final game for Team USA or not.

Bruins release an official statement on Charlie McAvoy

The Boston Bruins have released an official statement on Charlie McAvoy and whether or not he will be able to play.

"Charlie was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital on Monday to undergo testing related to an upper-body injury sustained during the 4 Nations Face-Off and is currently being evaluated by Boston Bruins Head Team Physician Dr. Peter Asnis.

He will not play for Team USA in the 4 Nations Face-Off Championship Game on Thursday at TD Garden.

The Boston Bruins will provide further updates on his condition and status as soon as they become available."

This is a tough blow for Team USA, as Charlie McAvoy played a big role in the team beating Canada in their first meeting.

But, according to Team USA head coach Mike Sullivan, Quinn Hughes is en route to join Team USA to replace Charlie McAvoy.

Team USA currently have a full roster even with Charlie McAvoy out considering Jake Sanderson took his spot, and it's unclear if Hughes will even be allowed to play for Team USA on Thursday.
